September 29 – The Globe and Mail states that nearly four years ago, John Clarke was deeply shaken by a double tragedy. His wife, Shawna Christianson Clarke, died on Jan. 2, 2015, after a lengthy illness in Jerusalem, where Mr. Clarke and his family live. Ten days later, Mr. Clarke’s mother, Vilma Nathaniel Clarke, died in the same hospital. As the family struggled to cope with the losses, Mr. Clarke wanted to do something to honour both women who’d had a life-long passion for education. Shawna, who was from Manitoba, worked as a policy adviser in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ottawa before joining the United Nations’ West Bank field office in Jerusalem. Vilma, who was from Pakistan, had been a professor of geography at the Kinnaird College for Women, in Lahore. Mr. Clarke decided to launch a pair of scholarship programs; one for Palestinian women in Shawna’s name and another for students at the Kinnaird College in Pakistan named after his mother.

January 10: Cricinfo reported The Pakistan Cricket Board [PCB] has appointed Mohammad Rizwan as the vice-captain of the T20I side ahead of the team's five-match series against New Zealand. Two more cops on polio duty martyred in Bannu
January 10: The Express Tribune reported At least two policemen deployed for polio duty in the Teri Ram area of Bannu district were martyred while three others injured during a gunfight with unidentified armed men on Tuesday. One of the three attackers was killed, the other was taken into custody in an injured condition while the third one managed to escape. Read more I
