ISLAMABAD: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced the restoration of its flights to Muscat and Sharjah, which it suspended over a year due to financial difficulties.
The Lahore-Muscat route will reopen from November 18, according to a post on the airline’s Twitter account.
In a statement, the national flag carrier said it will operate flights to Muscat on Saturday and Sunday each week.
“With the introduction of these flights PIA will have a total of nine flights to Muscat operating from Peshawar, Turbat and Gwadar, as well as Lahore,” the statement added.
PIA has also decided to restore its Sialkot-to-Sharjah route with flights on Tuesday and Friday every week, beginning on November 20.
PIA President and CEO Arshad Malik reportedly told the commercial department to implement an “aggressive strategy to enhance its access in market and revenue“
“The turnaround and revival of the national flag carrier is now inevitable and the government is extending all-out support,” Malik said in a statement.
The Pakistani government approved a 17-billion-rupee bailout for PIA earlier this month.
