ISLAMABAD: To facilitate doctors and medical staff in case of an emergency, the Palestinian embassy has gifted a mobile health unit to the government of Pakistan, during a ceremony which was held at its mission in Islamabad on Tuesday.
“It’s a two-bed mobile health unit with basic equipment, an inspection room for doctors and a generator which is a small gift from the people of Palestine to the people of Pakistan,” Ahmed Rabei, the ambassador of Palestine to Pakistan, told Arab News on Tuesday.
As the mobile unit is equipped with a generator, “it can be moved from one place to another to deal with any emergency.”
Rabei said that the gesture is also aimed at deepening the ties between the two countries.
“Relations between Pakistan and Palestine are very deep, beginning from 1951 and Palestinians are very proud of these relations.
The idea of a mobile hospital unit is very important to us (Palestinians) as our Pakistani brothers had supported the Palestinians since the beginning of the [political] crisis,” he said, adding that this help was extended in the field of education, health and in politics, too.
“It is our gesture to show gratitude to the Pakistani people for all that they have done for us over the years,” he said.
Pakistan’s Minister of State for Health, Dr. Zafar Mirza, who received the mobile unit at the Palestinian embassy, expressed his gratitude for the initiative.
“On behalf of the government and people of Pakistan, I pay my gratitude to the beautiful people of Palestine for this gorgeous gift,” Mirza told Arab News, adding that certain areas in Pakistan do not have easy access to health care and will be helped by this initiative.
“This unit will help us provide health care in those places which do not have easy access...We will make best use of it and will always remember the lovely gesture of our brotherly country (Palestine),” he said.
The Palestinian envoy said he was confident of Pakistan’s full support in the future as he forsaw a difficult time ahead after the announcement of a Palestinian policy by US President Donald Trump.
“Now we are going for a big development in Palestine as US President Trump is going to announce his idea for the solution of the Palestine issue. After this we may have more difficult life in Palestine. We are sure about the usual support of government and people of Pakistan in this new and difficult phase as they had provided until now,” Rabei said.
