Journalist and politician Nayla Tueni is currently the CEO of Annahar newspaper, one of the biggest Lebanese daily newspapers in the Middle East.

At the young age of 23, Tueni began preparing to take over the leadership of Annahar, after her father — renowned editor and publisher Gebran Tueni — was killed in a car bombing in Beirut.

As a fourth-generation journalist, the trade runs in Tueni’s family. Indeed, Annahar was established by her great grandfather Gebran Tueni in 1933 and has remained in the family ever since.

After her father’s death, Tueni was trained by her grandfather Ghassan Tueni in journalism and newspaper management from 2005 until his death in 2012, when she took over the reins of the newspaper.

Alongside her journalism work, Tueni served as a member of the Lebanese Parliament for almost 10 years, from 2009-2018, representing the district of Achrafieh in the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

Tueni is also a board trustee of Mentor Arabia, a non-governmental organization that promotes drug prevention and awareness among Arab youths.

In 2020, Tueni was awarded Media Personality of the Year at the 2020 Arab Media Forum for her steady leadership of Annahar during one of Lebanon’s worst years.
