RIYADH: Saudi Arabia recorded the highest number of daily COVID-19 infections since the beginning of the pandemic on Wednesday.
There were 5,362 new cases recorded from the previous 24 hours, pushing the total number of recorded cases to 593,545 so far.
According to the ministry, the highest number of cases were recorded in the capital Riyadh with 1,492, followed by Jeddah with 961, Makkah with 436, Madinah confirmed 273, and Dammam recorded 165.
The Ministry of Health confirmed two new deaths, bringing the number of fatalities in the Kingdom to 8,899.
It also announced that 2,499 patients had recovered from COVID-19, bringing the total number of recoveries in the Kingdom to 552, 057.
Over 53.2 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered since the Kingdom’s immunization campaign started. More than 23.4 million people have been fully vaccinated.
Saudi municipalities have also ramped up efforts to monitor compliance with health and safety measures.
The Eastern Province Municipality carried out 1,289 tours on Tuesday and field teams issued fines to 89 commercial outlets for breaching protocols.
Jeddah Municipality identified 36 violations and closed 16 facilities during 5,679 monitoring rounds during the past two days.
Najran, Makkah, Madinah, Baha, Asir and other municipalities also continued their intensive inspection and monitoring tours of shops, restaurants, markets and commercial centers.
Officials have also called on the public to report any suspected health breaches by phoning the 940 call center number or contacting authorities through the Balady app.
The coronavirus pandemic has affected over 315 million people globally and the death toll has reached around 5.52 million.
