ISLAMABAD: Defending champions Multan Sultans became the first to qualify for the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) 7 final on Wednesday after beating Lahore Qalandars by 28 runs.
Lahore Qalandars, however, are not out of the tournament. The Shaheen Afridi-led side will play the winner of the Peshawar Zalmi-Islamabad United clash on Friday for a berth in the PSL final.
Multan’s right-arm pacer Shahnawaz Dahani was instrumental in his team’s victory, taking three important wickets to trigger Lahore’s batting collapse. In-form opener Fakhar Zaman lived up to the expectations, scoring 63 off 45 balls before he fell prey to David Willey.
Kamran Ghulam put up some resistance for Lahore by scoring 20 but Mohammad Hafeez, Harry Brook and Samit Patel all scored less than 20 runs.
For Sultans, Willey picked up two wickets while Asif Afridi, Khushdil Shah and Rumman Raees each picked up a wicket.
Multan Sultans finished their innings at 163/2 from their 20 overs. Skipper Mohammad Rizwan scored yet another half-century in the PSL, making 53 off 51 balls while his partner at the other end, Shan Masood, failed to impress this time and lost his wicket for just 2 runs.
Aamer Azmat and Riley Rossouw pitched in with scores of 33 and 65, respectively, to ensure Multan put up a defendable target on the scoreboard.
