JEDDAH, 3 January — Thirty-one people were seriously injured when a coach carrying 47 Egyptian pilgrims overturned on the Makkah-Jeddah expressway, Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper reported yesterday. According to Abdul Aziz Al-Ozailan, director of the traffic department in Jeddah, 16 passengers in the bus which lost control following a tire burst, escaped unhurt. The group was heading for the Jeddah Islamic Port for their return journey after performing Umrah. Most of the passengers suffered broken legs and hands and it will take one to two weeks for them to resume their journey.
