RABIGH, 7 January — Medical malpractice was blamed for the death of a Sudanese worker at the Rabigh General Hospital in the Madinah Province recently.

Salahuddin Al-Dardiri, 35, died allegedly because of some error in the administration of anesthetic before surgery, the Okaz newspaper said yesterday.

Al-Dardiri went to the hospital complaining about severe stomach pain last Monday. The duty doctor diagnosed that the patient was suffering from appendicitis and recommended surgery.

Al-Dardiri came back ready for the operation the next day. After the anesthetic was administered, the doctors started to open his belly, but they found him already dead -- reportedly during efforts to anesthetize him.

The relatives of the Al-Dardiri are waiting for a medical report, said his brother Saifuddin Ahmad. According to the hospital director, Abdul Latheef Al-Zanbaqi, the cause of the death will be clear only after the investigations of a medical committee have been completed.

Al-Dardiri is survived by his wife and three sons, the newspaper said.
