JEDDAH, 29 March — The LG Cup Table Tennis Tournament entered second week and had the second set of matches played at Al-Hamra Sofitel Hotel. Over two hundred enthusiastic crowd attended the games applauded some fantastic strokes. Matches started in time at 4.00 p.m. and ended at 10:30 p.m.
DHL defeated Electronics Workshop in straight sets in the Team Event Final. DHL won first set with a margin of 21-16, 21-14. In the second set, DHL won with same ease. However, the doubles was not an easy win as Mansoor Abdul Rehman of Electronic Workshop showed some resistance. Ashit and Anuja of DHL played with outstanding team work and some fantastic back strokes were witnessed. DHL won the third set with a margin of 21-19, 21-17 and 21-8. DHL was declared the winners of Team Events.
Earlier, DHL defeated hard-hitting Riyadh House in the semifinal. Riyadh House team collectively performed very well and played some good table tennis. Mohannad of Riyadh House and Ashit of DHL won praise from the spectators and were commended on various occasions.
Team Event quarterfinals were played with vigor and vitality. Participating teams gave their best to win the position to play the semifinals. First match for the quarterfinals was played between Royal Sun Alliance and VIP Travel Club, in which Rehan Khan of VIP Travel Club showed his skills by playing good shots. His footwork and back hand strokes got him the winning lead. Rushdi Sherwani performed well and led the team to enter semifinals.
The second quarterfinal was played between Riyadh House Est. and United Naghi. Mohannad Sayed of Riyadh House earned recognition for his game. Riyadh House easily outplayed United Naghi as they could not get off the ground to face the lightning speed of Mohannad.
The third quarterfinal was won by Electronics Workshop against Jeddah Inter.Con Hotel. Mansoor Abdul Rehman gave an outstanding performance as swift as a hawk, he was defensive and cautious. But Raees was the hero who with his fine footwork guided his team to enter semifinal.
The Fourth quarterfinal was played between Saudi National Insurance Company and DHL. Despite Asadullah Ghalib’s best performance, Saudi National Insurance failed to avail the opportunity of his presence and lost to their superiors DHL. Anuja of DHL also received applauds for his game. It was the most liked match of the day.
Asadullah Ghalib is also the president of Jeddah Table Tennis League.
Ho Kyoung Seo, general manager, LG Electronics commented on the matches and said that some good table tennis is being played and he is very encouraged with the outcome and participation. Most spectators are appreciative of the efforts of LG Electronics. Earlier during the day, round two was played between Electronic Workshop vs. Jeddah Graphic, Tokyo Marine vs. DHL, International Airport Projects vs. Jeddah Inter.Con Hotel and Saudi National Insurance vs. Med Net Gulf. Winners of the second round played the quarterfinals.
Second phase of LG Cup Table Tennis tournament will be played today.
Nadeem Khan of LGE, the administrator of the matches was fully satisfied with the matches and signed the approval of winning teams for the next round.
