ISLAMABAD: At least 13 people were killed in two separate road crashed in central and northern Pakistan, local media reported on Monday.
In the first incident, a passenger bus plunged into a ravine in Azad Kashmir’s Kotli area.
“A bus carrying over 35 pilgrims fell into a ditch killing nine people and injuring multiple others near Kotli in Azad Jammu Kashmir,” Pakistan’s Samaa TV station reported.
“The injured were shifted to Mirpur District Head Quarters (DHQ). The bus was returning from Nerian Sharif Urs.”
Four others were killed after a second bus overturned on the M3 Motorway near the central Pakistani city of Sheikhupura.
“Four people were killed and 30 people were injured in the accident,” the report read, citing police.
“The injured and dead persons were shifted to Mayo Hospital in Lahore.”
Deadly accidents are a common occurrence in Pakistan due to poor road infrastructure, vehicle safety and a disregard for traffic laws.
Twenty-two passengers were killed and 12 others were wounded after a speeding bus collided with a car and plunged into a ravine in northwest Pakistan on February 2, police said.
Days earlier, more than 40 people were killed after a speeding bus fell into a ravine and caught fire near Balochistan’s Lasbela district in the country’s southwest, with some bodies burned beyond recognition.
