ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar said on Thursday it was his administration’s top priority to resolve the issues facing local business community by fixing Pakistan’s tax system and listening to the concerns of traders and industrialists.
Faced with a tough economic situation, Pakistan’s top officials, including the army chief General Asim Munir, have held a string of meetings with influential businesspeople to seek their input and assure them about the game plan to put the country on a positive financial trajectory.
The prime minister also noted the business community was playing a vital role in the development of Pakistan’s economy and creating employment opportunities for people.
“I welcome your suggestions and assure you of implementation of the workable suggestions,” he said while speaking to a delegation of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Kakar reminded them that he met with the business leaders soon after taking over the top political office of the country last month and listened to their problems.
“The government is ensuring reforms in the tax system which is being digitized,” he continued. “Until tax collection in Pakistan does not increase, the improvement in the country’s economy will not be possible.”
The prime minister said his government would try to stabilize the economy by restoring the confidence of traders, industrialists and investors in it.
He informed the delegation that his administration had started carrying out reforms in the power sector and would soon crack down against people stealing electricity.
Kakar noted that consultations with all stakeholders were necessary to solve Pakistan’s national problems, instructing the commerce ministry to regularly interact with the business community across the country.
Additionally, he instructed relevant officials to ensure improved performance of commercial attachés posted in Pakistani embassies in different countries.
