ISLAMABAD: Jawad Sohrab Malik, special assistant to the prime minister on overseas Pakistanis, praised Saudi Arabia for leading efforts to improve international job markets at the world’s first Global Labour Market Conference (GLMC) this week, the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) said on Saturday.
The GLMC serves as a vital platform for experts, specialists, and labor market stakeholders to engage in discussions about current and future international market challenges, and propose innovative solutions. It was launched in Riyadh by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, and held from Dec. 13-14 this week.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have deep cultural, defense, and economic ties, deeply rooted in history and religion. The kingdom is home to over two million Pakistanis, making it the largest contributor to remittance inflows in the South Asian country.
“In discussions with reporters, SAPM [special assistant to the prime minister] praised Saudi Arabia for leading efforts to improve international job markets to adapt to constant changes,” APP said in a report.
“He highlighted the evolving nature of today’s job market, emphasizing the need for new skills for future jobs and the emergence of new professions.”
Speaking to labor ministers from over 26 countries at the conference, Malik said Pakistan possesses a “vast pool” of unskilled, semi-skilled, and highly skilled labor ready to meet the demands and requirements of the global job market.
“He underscored the importance for both the participants of the ministerial roundtable conference and foreign employers to recognize the mutual benefits of engaging the highly competitive Pakistani workforce for employment,” the APP added.
Malik said Pakistan aimed to enhance its workers’ productivity by revitalizing STEM education, enhancing digital literacy, and establishing public-private partnerships for practical tech exposure.
He proposed comprehensive social protection measures such as employment insurance, health care, pensions, career support, and family-oriented services to ensure a technologically proficient Pakistani workforce, the APP said.
“Jawad Sohrab Malik reaffirmed his nation’s commitment to developing skilled workers and fostering international partnerships in the labor sector,” the APP said.
