CAIRO: The Arab Parliament is to hold a special session on Palestine on Thursday, called “Supporting Palestine and Gaza,” at the headquarters of the Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo.
A number of Arab and international figures are scheduled to attend the session.
A statement by the Arab Parliament said that hosting the event came within the framework of continuing efforts by the body to support the Palestinian cause and its people in the face of Israel’s aggression.
The Arab Parliament spoke of continued efforts at all levels and in all forums to support the Palestinian cause, most notably the right to establish an independent state.
The special session is scheduled to be preceded by a meeting of the Arab Parliament’s Palestine Committee next Wednesday to discuss the latest developments in the Gaza Strip.
Arab Parliament Speaker Adel Abdulrahman Al-Asoumi has condemned what he called the “shameful” international silence on the “daily crimes” committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip.
Addressing the 147th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly hosted by Angola in Luanda, Al-Asoumi called the global response to Israel’s military action in Gaza “a disgrace.”
He warned that the international community’s neglect of the “massacres which the Palestinian people are exposed to, and the blind support of some countries of those horrors, will lead to the destruction of the entire region.”
