Riyadh: Secretary-General of the Muslim World League Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa recently participated as a guest of honor in the Africa Youth Forum, held in Nairobi.
The forum aimed to provide young people with a platform to discuss their issues alongside prominent religious, political, and civic leaders.
Addressing the forum, Al-Issa touched on several crucial issues concerning the present and future of youth. He emphasized the pivotal role of young people in shaping the future of their countries and the need to implement plans that prioritize areas crucial to them, such as education.
He addressed troubling statistics related to youth, particularly in the context of education, highlighting that the situation is especially challenging for girls, who are deprived of education solely because of their gender.
Al-Issa urged a concerted effort to identify and address the barriers that hinder young people from accessing quality education, underlining the shared responsibility in finding effective solutions.
He also discussed the role of youth in facilitating dialogue between followers of different religions and cultures, the influence of extremist ideas on some young people, and the essential role of youth in charitable endeavors.
The MWL chief underscored the need to go beyond exchanging views on youth-related issues and translate these discussions into effective plans with tangible impact.
The Youth Parliament of Kenya hosted Al-Issa for a session in which he emphasized the importance of considering young people’s interests when shaping future policies.
Riyadh: Members of Saudi Arabia’s Project Masam removed 1,139 explosive devices from various regions of Yemen last week.
The total included 13 anti-personnel mines, 56 anti-tank mines, 1,056 unexploded ordnances and 14 explosive devices, according to a recent report.
Ousama Al-Gosaibi, the initiative’s managing director, said a total of 455,827 mines had been cleared since its inception in 2018.
The explosives were planted indiscriminately and posed a threat to civilians, including children, women and the elderly.
The demining operations took place in Marib, Aden, Jouf, Shabwa, Taiz, Hodeidah, Lahij, Sanaa, Al-Bayda, Al-Dhale and Saada.
Teams are tasked with clearing villages, roads and schools to facilitate safe movement for civilians and the delivery of humanitarian aid.
RIYADH: The Kingdom’s aid agency KSrelief is considering setting up healthcare projects in Colombia, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday.
Several members of KSrelief’s volunteer medical staff toured the cities of Bogota and Quibdo from Aug. 11 to 15 to assess the conditions.
In addition, they had discussions with government health officials and the leadership of several hospitals.
KSrelief provides medical and other support to vulnerable communities across the world.
RIYADH: The Kingdom’s aid agency KSrelief has signed deals with authorities in Nigeria and Mali to provide water for local communities, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday.
In Nigeria, teams will drill 21 medium-depth solar-powered wells in Abuja, Enugu, Kano, Osun, Oyo and Kaduna.
The project is expected to benefit 105,000 people, and provide water for livestock.
In Mali, drinking water will be provided for 372,304 people with the creation of several solar-powered wells.
These projects are a part of KSrelief’s worldwide aid projects, which includes the provision of healthcare, education and sanitation.
RIYADH: The deputy governor of Makkah will honor the winners of the 44th King Abdulaziz International Competition for the Memorization, Recitation and Interpretation of the Qur’an at the Grand Mosque on Wednesday.
The supervisor of the competition, the Kingdom’s Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance Abdullatif bin Abdulaziz Al Al-Sheikh, said 174 contestants from 123 countries participated in this year’s contest, the highest number participating in the competition’s history.
The minister said the competition highlights the Kingdom’s care for the holy Qur’an and those who memorize it.
Al-Sheikh thanked Makkah Gov. Prince Khalid Al-Faisal and Deputy Gov. Prince Saud bin Mishal bin Abdulaziz for their support and assistance in making the current edition of the competition a success.
The prize pool for the competition is SR4 million ($1,065,996).
