CAIRO, 30 August 2005 — Around 30 workers of the Egyptian-Spanish Asbestos Company (Ora Misr) in the Tenth of Ramadan City demonstrated, calling for compensations and alternative jobs after the plant, which uses the legally banned asbestos, had been shut down by a government decree. “We had enough,” said Mahmoud Al-Sayyed, a 32-worker of Ora Misr. “The government is doing nothing but telling us lies, the owners of the company are tyrants and the unions are useless,” he told Arab News.
