JEDDAH, 20 November 2005 — Soccer powerhouse Al-Ittihad of Saudi Arabia will play against Al-Wedad of Morocco in their second-leg match in Morocco in the Arab Champions League (ACL) today. Ittihad took the upper hand when they defeated Morocco 2-0 in the first match at their home ground in Jeddah on Nov. 8. The win will put Ittihad into the quarterfinals.
Ahli Club Fire Coach
The career of Ahli soccer club coach Elia came to an abrupt end when he was fired from his post on Friday, said Dr. Abdul Razzak Abu Dawood, the president of the club. Dr. Razzak met with the coach who agreed to end the contract. National coach Yousif Anbar will take over the post on a temporary basis. Anbar will prepare the team for tomorrow’s match against Taie in Jeddah. The club is looking for a new coach. Romania’s Blatchi and the Brazil’s Zomario are the likely choices.
Handball Match Turns Violent
In Dammam, a handball match between Al-Hazem and Al-Safa played in Al-Rass that ended 31-27 in Al-Hazem’s favor ended in a brawl. A number of players suffered injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment. The fight took place after the final buzzer when one of the Al-Safa players used abusive language against Al-Hazem players. Referees blamed the absence of policemen at the hall for the fight.
