ISLAMABAD, 5 April 2006 — Two moderate tremors injured several people in northern Pakistan yesterday, almost five months after a huge earthquake devastated the region. The aftershocks’ epicenter was in Hazara division, 200 km northeast of Peshawar.

The first tremor was felt in Battagram, Mansehra, Muzaffarabad, several parts of North West Frontier Province as well as Islamabad, the Pakistan Meteorological Department said.

“Several houses damaged in last year’s earthquake collapsed and around 12 people were injured,” said Shehnaz Khan, a police officer in Battagram, adding that one person was in a critical condition.

The second tremor was felt in the same region after four minutes. More than 1,800 aftershocks have been recorded since Oct. 8, 2005, and meteorological officials expect more will be felt until May.
