Storage in a Small Stylish Package
The new Maxtor OneTouch III-Mini Edition drive has been designed with the mobile professional in mind, weighing in at just seven ounces. It is the first mobile storage solution that comes fully loaded with the latest software innovations to protect and manage digital content, including automated backup, data synchronization and system rollback to restore applications and operating system while keeping digital files current.
For added data security, the Maxtor OneTouch III-Mini Edition drive includes two levels of security: Software encryption to safeguard its contents if the drive is lost or stolen, and Maxtor DriveLock, embedded firmware that further restricts data access should it fall into the wrong hands. The firmware is designed to deny access without the correct password even if the internal hard drive is removed from the casing and attached to another computer.
The Maxtor OneTouch III-Mini Edition comes in a 60GB or 100GB capacity and connects to a Microsoft Windows 2000 or XP computer via a USB 2.0 port. Available at all EMEA retailers and distributors mid-May, the price for the 60GB drive is $129 and $189 for the 100GB drive.
Share Videos With a Global Audience
YouTube is a consumer media company that allows people to watch and share original videos worldwide through a web experience. YouTube has given people the ability to easily upload, tag and share video clips through youtube.com, across the Internet, and through e-mail, as well as to create their own personal video network. As broadband connectivity is increasing across the Middle East, more and more video content originating in the region is finding its way onto the service.
With YouTube and a high-speed connection, users can upload videos up to 100MB per video. YouTube does require a free membership in order to use most of its services. Also, find, join and create video groups to connect with people having similar interests. Even if you don’t have your own videos, you can browse thousands of original videos uploaded by community members.
Cleveland Clinic Launches Online Service
The Cleveland Clinic (www.clevelandclinic.org) has introduced an e-health specialist consultation service. With e-Cleveland Clinic, patients across the Middle East and around the world can seek specialized second medical opinions for more than 600 life-threatening or life-altering diagnoses. The second opinions are rendered by Cleveland Clinic physicians in the US specializing in each diagnosis. They can provide patients with the information they need to make important treatment choices. Using the online service can be quite fast and detailed second opinions are typically given within five to seven working days.
Online registration for patients who use e-Cleveland Clinic takes between 30-45 minutes. After submittal of all the necessary records by a patient or their physician, a specialist at the clinic creates a permanent record for the patient and reviews all materials. A registered nurse coordinates the online service. Patients are asked to complete a general and disease specific questionnaire online and send films or studies via registered mail. Assistance is available every step of the way to ensure patient satisfaction and quality service.
Cyber-Shot W-Series Brings Added Performance
Sony has re-engineered its W-series Cyber-shot digital still cameras to embody the virtues of a traditional camera and yet satisfy modern tastes for sleek, compact design. In addition to sporting eye-level viewfinders in the fashion of traditional cameras, the new DSC-W50 and DSC-W30 models have large LCD screens and are significantly more compact than previous W-series models.
Both new cameras offer six-mega pixel image resolution for high-quality prints, high light sensitivity for fast-action shooting and more natural-looking pictures in low-light conditions, precision Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 3x optical zoom lenses, and MPEG1 movie recording. Available in silver and black, the DSC-W50 model features a 2.5-inch, easy-to-view LCD screen wrapped in a metal-alloy body with sophisticated etching and details. The DSC-W30 model comes in silver, white and light blue colors with a two-inch LCD screen.
Sony’s ultra-fast Real Imaging Processor circuit delivers quick start-up, fast shot-to-shot times and long battery life — up to 400 shots on a single charge for the DSC-W30 model. It also speeds up the cameras’ sophisticated auto-exposure and multi-point, auto-focus features so that users get the picture right the first time.
