JEDDAH, 15 February 2007 — The Kingdom’s first manpower development forum will be held here on March 3-4 with the participation of more than 250 experts and researchers, organizers said.
Saleh Al-Turki, chairman of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will open the forum, which will debate key issues such as modern trends in manpower planning and scientific methods of assessing job performance.
Abubakar ibn Aboud Baashen, chairman of the organizing committee, said 11 speakers including Dr. Mansour Al-Maiman, principal of Jeddah College of Technology, and Hisham Al-Linjawi, director of the Manpower Development Fund’s office in the Makkah region, would address the forum. It has been organized with the support of the chambers of commerce in various cities as well as the General Organization for Technical Education and Vocational Training.
“The two-day forum will debate a number of important issues related to manpower development and management,” Baashen said. The forum is in line with the Kingdom’s efforts to promote manpower training and development.
Baashen said the forum would focus on seven key topics. Dr. Abdullah Al-Salim, professor in administration at King Abdulaziz University, will present a paper on the effect of training in improving workers’ performance, and Dr. Shakeel Ahmed Habeeb will present another paper on management of skills and innovative capabilities of workers.
Salim Ba-Abdullah, senior manpower strategist at Saudi Arabian, will address a session on leadership training. Dr. Khaled ibn Muhammad Al-Safar will give a lecture on manpower development strategies in the business sector. Dr. Maiman will present a paper on productivity as a standard for performance assessment, while Bandar Al-Qahtani, a senior executive at Saudia, will speak on human resources engineering and Dr. Ismail Hasan Sati on modern methods in manpower planning.
Basic features required by human resources in economic sectors in the 21st century will be the topic of Dr. Muhammed Kamal Tahun. Khaled Sami Abu-Rashed, a legal adviser, will speak about the labor law and its role in human resource management.
