JEDDAH, 19 November 2007 — Famous Pakistani television, radio and film personality Shafi Muhammad Shah died in Karachi on Saturday. He was 57. The exact cause of death was not known but the actor was said to be suffering from many ailments.

“He was known across the Subcontinent for his profound portrayal of both urban and feudal characters,” wrote The News yesterday. Shafi had appeared in more than 150 soap operas on PTV and other channels.

Shafi started his career as a broadcaster at Radio Pakistan Karachi. He later moved to Lahore where he attained stardom after playing a leading role in Ashfaq Ahmed’s “Ek Haqeeqat Sau Afsaane” series. His famous performances include those in “Chand Grahan,” “Aanch,” “Nasal” and “Jungle.”
