JEDDAH: The city made history once again yesterday when it entered the “Guinness World Records” for having the largest shampoo bottle.
The 4.8-meter-high bottle containing 4,000 liters of shampoo, is on display at Hyper Panda in Andalus Mall.
“Shampoo is a new category introduced by the Guinness and the display of the biggest shampoo bottle has been certified to enter its record books,” Talal Omar, adjudication executive of London-based Guinness World Records, told Arab News on the sidelines of the celebration organized at Hyper Panda.
“In a remarkable display of business acumen and financial strength despite the difficult global economic situation, Al Azizia Panda United Company, owner and operator of one of the largest grocery retail chains in the GCC, has set a new mark for the Guinness World Records,” Mohammad Amin Kashgari, president and chief executive officer of Al Azizia Panda United Co., told a press conference that followed.
Earlier in 2003, Panda made it to the Guinness Book when it launched the biggest pyramid-shaped box with Tide detergent, Kashgari said, adding that the latest initiative is a joint effort between Ismail Abu Dawood Trading Company, the official distributor of Procter & Gamble products in Saudi Arabia, and Hyper Panda.
The launch also features the new logo and look of the Herbal Essences shampoo that comes in seven essences, Alkarim A. Rajwani, general manager and vice president of P&G Joint Ventures for Arabian Peninsula, said.
Rajwani said counterfeiting of consumer products in general and shampoos in particular had been greatly checked as a result of the stringent measures taken by the corporate world in cooperation with Saudi authorities.
The day’s celebration was also marked by various activities for children, women and shoppers with prizes ranging from 10 sets of jewelry to gift certificates for women’s spa and shopping. Panda also announced yesterday the opening of another store in Rakkah, Alkhobar, following the launch on Monday of a new store in Khamis Mushayt named Khamis Avenue.
