“Twitter is now ours! Congratulations to all Saudis for owning this cool website,” one tweeted.
Twitter responders were not limited to average Saudi users, as early Monday Princess Ameerah Al-Taweel, vice chairwoman of Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation, hinted of the Twitter investment through her official account, hours before Kingdom Holding Company’s (KHC) official announcement. Later the same day Princess Ameerah tweeted: “Congratulations to Kingdom Holding investors for the Twitter announcement by KHC. Great planned move and a great investment.”
Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi and head of Alarab news channel owned by Prince Alwaleed tweeted: “Some have given this investment in Twitter a political dimension. That is untrue. It's an investment and a belief in new media that is not limited to Twitter.”
Tweeters speculated whether the number of characters will be increased, or if the investment will carry with it usage charges for using the site.
