The hero of Al-Ahli’ s victory was striker Omani Emad Al-Hosani who scored the match winner in the 56th minute after the Hilal defenders failed to clear the ball following a tackle on Ahli forward Victor.
Opportunist Emad collected the lose ball and had no difficulty in placing it past an onrushing rival goalkeeper into the back of the net.
Hilal pushed forward in search for the equalizer and come back into the match. Essa Al-Muhayyani had a good chance to get the equalizer but he fumbled in front of the goal. They got the equalizer during injury time which was disallowed for offside.
The Ahli defense put up a good show and succeeded in keeping the rival forward at bay.
Ahli is now on top of the league table with 42 points and one point above Shabab who is in second place with 41 points. Hilal dropped to the fourth place with 37 points and with the second defeat this season.
In the other matches of the round, Ittifaq succeeded in defeating Hajr in Al-Ahsa 1-0. Ittifaq jumped to the third place with 38 points and back in the competition for the league title.
Hajr dropped to the ninth position with 18 points and are out of the running for the league title. Elsewhere Alfaisaly defeated Najran 4-1 and Al-Taawon drew with Qadesiya 1-1.
