Mohammed Salim Al-Sabban is a member of the economic advisory panel of the Saudi Supreme Economic Council.
Al-Sabban got his a bachelor’s degree in economics from King Abdul Aziz University (KAU) in Jeddah in 1974, joining KAU afterwards as a teaching assistant.
In 1979 he obtained a master’s degree in economics from the University of California. He returned from the US four years later with a doctorate from the University of Colorado in the same field of study.
Al-Sabban taught economics as a professor at KAU until 1997.
He has been a senior adviser to the minister of petroleum and mineral resources at what is now called the Ministry of Energy. He also served as a part-time adviser to the minister of industry and electricity from 1983 to 1987 at what is now the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources. He was a part-time adviser to the minister of petroleum for 10 years, beginning in 1987.
Al-Sabban is a member of several national and international boards, scientific and steering committees, in addition to being a board member of the Electricity and Cogeneration Regulatory Authority of Saudi Arabia from 2003 to 2009.
He is a founding member of Al-Aghar Group, one of the first nongovernmental think tank organizations in Saudi Arabia.
In 2007 he chaired the first international conference of the Clean Development Mechanism held in Riyadh.
