RIYADH : The Sahem platform, operating under the sponsorship of the Saudi aid agency KSrelief, has emerged as a vital lifeline amid the Gaza conflict, marked by humanitarian challenges. 

The online donation platform exemplifies the convergence of technology and philanthropy, creating a safe, secure, and efficient avenue for 1.22 million donors who have collectively contributed more than SR593 million (approximately $ 158 million) to aid the Palestinian people affected by the Gaza war.

This substantial outpouring of support, orchestrated in the shadow of a conflict that has profoundly impacted the Gaza Strip, underscores the resilient and charitable spirit of the Saudi people.

In response to the directives issued by King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman last November, the platform has mobilized a diverse range of contributors. “Sahem has provided Saudis with a safe means of donating to whatever project they find abroad, especially in war-stricken areas, with a simple click of a button. The images that we see today coming from Gaza are beyond difficult and heartbreaking. We have always stood with our Palestinian brothers and sisters, and we will always stand with them in their time of need,” said one anonymous donor. 

The success of the Sahem platform is anchored in its commitment to the security of contributions. This aspect is crucial, given the sensitive nature of the funds and the critical need for them to reach the intended recipients without any compromise. 

Samer Al-Jutaili, spokesman of KSrelief, told Arab News that 32 relief aircraft with 695 tons of food, shelter and medical supplies had been sent to the Palestinians in Gaza as of Dec. 18.

He added that four vessels loaded with 3.787 tons of similar items are also on their way to Gaza. 

“These shipments included 514 containers filled with medications and emergency and critical care items. One hundred and thirty-seven large containers filled with food and shelter items have also been sent. Moreover, 20 ambulance vehicles were transported to the disaster area in Palestine, where people are in dire need of medical assistance,” he said, adding that the total aid provided through the air relief and sea bridges amounted to 4.481 tons of items so far.

Sahem’s collaboration with reputable international organizations adds an extra layer of assurance, with $40 million having been provided through KSrelief’s partners, the UN Relief and Works Agency, the World Health Organization, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the World Food Programme.
