ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan armed forces won five medals at the World Military Cadet Games, organized by the International Military Sports Council (CISM) in Venezuela from August 16 to 22, according to an official statement released on Friday.
CISM, an acronym for the organization’s original name in French, is an international body focused on promoting peace and friendship among armed forces through sports.
It introduced the World Military Cadet Games in 2010 to include various sports disciplines aimed at fostering camaraderie, sportsmanship and a competitive spirit among military personnel globally.
The army’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said in its statement the Pakistani tri-services contingent only participated in track and field and shooting events.
“CISM Pakistan Armed Forces tri services team has won five medals in the event,” the ISPR announced. “Gold Medal in 400m race and Silver Medal in 200m race by Chief Warrant Officer
Mueed Bloch, Pakistan Air Force and Bronze Medal in 5000m race and Silver Medal in 10000m race by Sepoy Muhammad Akhtar, Pakistan Army.”
“In 25 Meter pistol shooting rapid team events category, Naik Qasim Bilal, Sepoy Ismail Khan and Sepoy Muhammad Rashid of Pakistan Army won Silver Medal,” it added.
The Pakistani armed forces have actively cultivated a culture of sports within their ranks to maintain physical fitness and agility among officers and soldiers, particularly those deployed in remote regions.
Additionally, they have promoted sports like squash, cricket and hockey at the national level by organizing tournaments and providing training facilities to encourage excellence among players.
